I know it’s easier said than done but staying calm and in control during a dog fight is very important. If you are not careful you may create more aggression between the dogs and they could turn on you. The faster you step in, the better but be sure to know what you are getting yourself into. Parting sticks are a good way to go which you insert in your dogs mouth during a dog fight which is supposed to put all pressure on the stick and release any grip they may have from the other dog. Here is what they look like:

They look scarier than they really are. These could save your dogs life if you learn how to use it correctly.

Now it’s not the same for every dog. For some dogs a loud firm NO may work, some people have used water or just simply pulling them apart. If you have large dog breeds, these techniques may be more difficult. It’s good to know what can cause a dog fight which isn’t always what you think it is. It could be something as simple as a bird in the backyard which causes excitement and then there you have it, a dog fight.

If you have two people around when a dog fight takes place and you don’t have a parting stick or anything else to help you, if each person grabs a dog by their hind legs and pulls away from the other dog this will cause them to lose their balance and focus on standing up and they will let go of their grip. This process has to be very quick as they will try to secure their grip right away so it’s important to completely block the dogs off from one and other so they can’t even see each other.

Dog fighting is something you should always be aware and conscious of when owning more than one dog or often having them in social situations.
